Pondering – heron at the duck pond, St. Anne’s Park

The heron is a familiar sight at the duck pond in St. Anne’s Park.  His stately stature is usually ever so still as he ponders over the water.  Actually, if you look up the old ordinance survey maps of St. Anne’s you will see that this area was called Heronstown so his ancestors may have been in this area for many years. Walking along the river immersed in the canopy of trees it is always a nice end to reach the reflection and light of the pond at the other side. In this piece I have captured the reflection of the “Boathouse” or Pompeiian Temple, one of the follies built as part of the Guinness estate.

My illustration uses a mixture of detailed pen illustration combined with digital techniques.
