Calm in the Palm House Linoprint

‘Calm in the Palm House’ is my 3 colour linocut print of the Great Palm House in the Botanics Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin.  Edition of 40.

Hand printed with 3 colour layers on Fabriano paper with Cranfield Oil inks. This is a varied edtion (E.V) because each of the prints have slight variations in the subtle gradient of the glass in the greenhouse.

I love the Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, and I enjoy exploring them throughout the year to see the seasonal changes. However, whatever the weather is like outside, entering the Great Palm House is like stepping into another world, another climate. The fresh smell, moisture in the air, warmth and sight of the tropical plants, set against the beautiful Victorian structure of the greenhouse, transports me into a different place where all is calm. The great structure of the greenhouse was created in 1884 in Scotland and brought to Dublin flat packed for assembly. In 2004 it was reopened to the public after extensive restoration to bring this centre piece of the Botanic Gardens back to its former glory. This lino print captures a snapshot of the fresh uplifting atmosphere in the greenhouse.
